Crisis In President’s Home As Aisha Buhari Breaks Silence On Viral Video, Locked In Aso Rock

Crisis In President’s Home As Aisha Buhari Breaks Silence On Viral Video, Locked In Aso Rock

A fresh crisis on Monday erupted at President Muhammadu Buhari’s home as his wife, Aisha, battled the family of Mamman Daura, the President’s nephew.

Daura’s daughter, Fatima, in an interview with the BBC Hausa Service on Monday owned up to a video shot at the Presidential Villa.

In the video, the President’s wife, was heard asking questions and making comments about being locked out of a room and demanding that some people should pack their belongings and leave the apartment.

The First Lady and Fatima, in separate interviews with the BBC Hausa Service shed light on the video, which went viral on Friday.

Fatima in the interview said she shot the video with her phone “in case something happens.”

On her part, the President’s wife confirmed in a 25-second voice clip on the BBC Hausa Service website that she was the person in the video in question.

She accused Fatima of recording the incident while the security detail did nothing because the culprit was Mamman Daura’s daughter.

The first lady said, “I was the one in the video, those behind me were the security personnel given to protect me, but Mamman Daura’s daughter, Fatima, shot the video in the presence of security officials and everybody. She was laughing at me because my husband said they should vacate the place for my son to occupy.

“I wanted to pass through that door to go into a store but they closed the door. I took an alternative route but the door was still locked.”

But in her own account, Fatima said she recorded the incident to provide proof for her parents and security officials in an event “something happens.”

She noted that she was surprised by the President’s wife’s outbursts during the incident.

Abubakar Shekau Breaks Long Silence To Speak On Boko Haram Ending Violence In Nigeria

Abubakar Shekau Breaks Long Silence To Speak On Boko Haram Ending Violence In Nigeria

The Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, on Sunday broke his longtime silence to speak on the Borno governor’s recent call on insurgents to lay down their arms and embrace government’s amnesty programme.

In an 18 minutes audio message, Mr Shekau, who spoke in his native Kanuri language and in Hausa, faulted the governor’s claims that some of the insurgents that were forced to join Boko Haram are tired of fighting.

The Boko Haram leader said none of his members was tired of fighting and that they would continue fighting till their last breathe.

This is the first video by the terror group’s fugitive leader in several months.

Midway into the video, Mr Shekau played an audio clip in which the Governor of Borno, Babagana Zulum, was heard addressing a crowd. In the audio, the governor called on Boko Haram members to surrender and embrace government’s amnesty programme through the ‘safe corridor’ programme.

It is not known how Mr Shekau and his group got the audio clip, although there have been rumours that Boko Haram members masquerade as IDPs and are in some of the camps Mr Zulum recently visited.

Mr Zulum, who usually ends his public speeches with a call for Boko Haram to surrender, was also heard quoting a verse of the Holy Quran which says “God forgives sins.”

But Mr Shekau, who claims to have memorised the Quran, said the governor misquoted the verses.

“I decided to deliver this message to clarify an issue in order for the public to understand our stand so that they would not be misguided. Particularly, I’m speaking on the claims of the governor of Borno State that some of our members were forced to join us against their will and now they are tired of fighting.

“And it was because of that that government has created “operation safe corridor” programme where repentant members of our group can be helped.

“I want to tell the governor that we are not tired yet. We have not even started. It is our wish to die fighting. We are on top of our game and by the grace of God we are going die doing this. We are still here.

“You should know that in Islam, you cannot receive the forgiveness of Allah if you die without accepting Islam.

“Even the disciples of Islam, including the parent of a prophet of Islam did not get the pardon of God because they died without accepting Islam.

“The governor should know that Islam is not Borno’s religion, it is not religion of Yobe or Kano; it is not a religion from Nigeria, or Niger or Cameroon. It is God’s religion sent down from heaven and explained to us clearly by the prophet.

“For that reason, people should desist from giving wrong interpretation to the verses of the Holy Quran. For example, the verses that the governor quoted about forgiveness were not only wrong but used out of context; even this is enough shame on you governor.

“It is not for us to repent; it is your governor of Borno that needs to repent. You cannot get paradise with what you are doing now.

“The world is full of people seeking its secular gains, and it abounds for all, but heaven is only for those that worked for it. Paradise is meant only for those who follow the path of God. Neither power nor wealth can earn one paradise. The people of Borno should repent and seek the face of God.

“For us, democracy is an act of infidelity toward God. Democracy means “demons and cratos”. These are man-made laws that you follow, and God has forbidden us from following man-made laws. God has enjoined us to worship none except Him alone.

“But here you are obeying the constitution when we have the Quran. It is better to be buried under the earth than to live in this kind of misguided generation.

“This is my message to the people of Borno in response to the speech made by their governor.

“That is why I kept saying that any of our members that will come and join us only for him to leave because he is tired, is just wasting his time. They should know that even we only depend on God in all that we do. Anyone that knows the Holy Quran won’t want to spend a second amongst those infidels.”

Nigeria becoming one-party state – APC

Nigeria becoming one-party state – APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Sunday mocked the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The ruling party said Nigeria deserves a strong, vibrant opposition to play its conventional role in the polity to deepen democracy.

“Sadly, Nigeria is becoming a one-party state. As a party that believes in democracy and progressive politics, we cannot pretend any longer”, APC national publicity secretary, Lanre Issa-Onilu said in a statement.

He noted that democracy cannot be said to be fully operational in a situation where the PDP has become a joke, irresponsible and rudderless.

“Even as the governing party, we recognize the importance of rigorous and intelligent interrogation of our policies and programmes by the opposition”, the statement continued.

“There are a lot to gain by our democracy and our country in an atmosphere of robust engagement by responsible and patriotic opposition.

“The political system we practice has important roles for the political parties outside of power. The system envisaged that such parties would provide alternative viewpoints and put the governing party on its toes.

“Instead, the PDP and their minions have in the name of opposition continued to distract the government and Nigerians with their post-election delusions, salacious fictions, conjured rifts in government circle and of course the lowest of it all, the pathetic and senseless Jubril of Sudan malicious tale, among other fake news. Tragic!

“It is sad that PDP has finally proved incapable of filling this important democratic space. The other mushroom parties are even worse. Some of the smaller parties are filled with incurable charlatans issuing infantile weekly press statements on behalf of the PDP. Our democracy deserves better.

“The so called Congress of United Political Parties (CUPP), which could have filled the vacuum and engaged the APC administration in useful debates over governance, has become a comedy theater group and frontline PDP minion.

“CUPP has the unenviable mandate to try to intimidate and blackmail important state institutions such as INEC, the judiciary, and security agencies, on behalf of PDP with the hope of gaining political advantage having been rejected by the majority of the voters.

“As the current administration tackles our national challenges and at a period we all should focus on issues of nation building, the best PDP and its acolytes are offering is a distraction.

“While the PDP wallows in its obscene conducts, Nigeria under the President Muhammadu Buhari-led APC administration will continue to consolidate on its status as Africa’s largest economy.

“Despite inheriting a battered economy, the administration is growing the economy after pulling it out of recession.

“The administration’s record investments in agriculture, social investments and infrastructure projects are paying off hugely”, the spokesman added.

The rumour emerged from the Aso Rock that Buhari will be getting married in a very quiet ceremony to Sadia Umar Farouq, the current Minister for Humanitarian Affairs Disaster Management on Friday.

I Was A Billionaire At 25 – Governor Umahi

I Was A Billionaire At 25 - Governor Umahi

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has said that he became a billionaire at the age of 25.

Umahi made the disclosure while interacting with leadership of Abakpa main market in Abakaliki, NAN reports.

The governor said he became a billionaire at the age of 25 due to hard work and commitment to duty, adding that he is a very rich person.

He also debunked social media reports that he owns shops at the market and built his house within one year.

“I work very hard, I am not a poor person but a very, very rich person.

“You can’t use the state’s money and still do all these things (projects) we are doing, I don’t have any shop or any interest in the market,” he said.

The governor also said rescinding some of the decisions on the relocation of the traders from the market was due to the intervention of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).

He also announced that the Abakpa market would now be designated and called Ebonyi Fruits and Vegetable Market.

“We presently have a special assistant on the market, the structures that are still strong are going to be renovated.

“The traders have two options: it is either you renovate it to our taste and become landlords or we do it on our own and you are no longer the landlord,” he added.

Umahi also announced that due to the intervention of CAN, the government had changed the date of the trader’s relocation to the state’s international market to Jan.10, 2020 instead of the original Oct.15, 2019.

He also ordered that some of the shops that were hitherto sealed in the market and re-opened be re-sealed due to the owners’ reluctance to withdraw their lawsuits against the government.

“The same applies to the such traders at the building materials market as we will enter into appearance with those who took us to court,” he added.

Lagos Assembly Threaten To Order Arrest Of Ambode

Lagos Assembly Threaten To Order Arrest Of Ambode

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has asked the Clerk of the House, Mr Azeez Sanni, to invite former governor Akinwunmi Ambode over the 820 vehicles purchased during his administration.

Obasa also directed that former government officials involved in the project should be invited.

He said if they refused to hour the invitation, the Assembly would do newspaper adverts, after which it would issue warrants for their arrest.

The Speaker spoke at the plenary on Thursday after two ad hoc committees set up to investigate the purchase of 820 buses during the Ambode administration and appraise the 2019 mid-year budget, delivered their reports.

The chairman of the nine-man committee probing the bus purchase, Fatai Mojeed, stated that out of the 20 officials summoned by the committee, four did not appear.

He identified them as the former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Kazeem Adeniji; ex-Commissioner for Budget, Mr Olusegun Banjo; ex-Commissioner for Finance, Mr Akinyemi Ashade; and former Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Mr Wale Oluwo.

Some members of the House, while reacting to the reports, suggested that warrants should be issued for the arrest of the former governor and the ex-commissioners.

The member representing Alimosho Constituency 1, Bisi Yusuf, said the House had constitutional powers to issue such warrants.

However, member representing Badagry Constituency 1, Ibrahim Layode, advised that invitation should be extended to the ex-governor and former commissioners through newspaper adverts.

Obasa then said, “The clerk should write them, including the ex-governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, and if they refuse, we will do newspaper publications and after that, we will issue warrants of arrest.”

In another development, the House disregarded a petition against member representing Lagos Mainland Constituency II, Lanre Oshun, who was accused of collecting $200,000 bribery to cover up a breach of contract in the environment ministry.

The chairman of the ad hoc committee investigating the allegation, Tunde Braimoh, informed the House that the petitioner was faceless, and the allegation was baseless.
