Thailand Woman Whose Breast Won’t Stop Growing

Lamphrai Srinuan first noticed her chest starting to swell around three years ago, but thought little of it.

But the 46-year-old, from Thailand, says they began to suddenly balloon at the end of last year.

Lamphrai, who has no children, is now in agony as her ginormous assets cause her chronic shoulder, back and chest pain.Thailand Woman Whose Breast Won't Stop Growing

In April, her husband Bunleang, 51, took her to the the Buddhachinaraj hospital in Phitsanulok in a desperate bid for answers.

Doctors carried out examinations and a scan revealed no signs of tumours, leaving them baffled and unable to diagnose her.

It’s very difficult for me to even sit or lay down to sleep at night-Lamphrai Srinuan.

Speaking on Friday, Lamphrai, said: “It’s very difficult for me to even sit or lay down to sleep at night.

“The breasts are getting heavier and that really hurts my neck and my back.

“I don’t wear clothes because every shirt I have doesn’t fit me now. I only have one large shirt that I wear when I go to the hospital.”

Lamphrai, who has had to stop work harvesting rice, is currently suffering from a joint infection, which worsens her condition as she is unable to walk without crutches.

She is also forced to wear a heavy cloth tied behind her neck to support her gigantic bosom.

Lamphrai is worried because her breasts are still growing every day and their weight puts constant pressure on her spine and pain in her nipples.

She appealed for help with medical costs last week and hopes that somebody will be able to cure the condition.

Lamphrai has not been diagnosed but the illness appears to be similar to breast hypertrophy.

Breast hypertrophy – of which one form is gigantomastia – is one medical condition that can cause breasts to grow uncontrollably.

What Is Gigantomastia?

Gigantomastia is a rare condition that causes excessive growth of the female breasts. Only a couple hundredTrusted Source cases have been reported in the medical literature.

The exact cause of gigantomastia isn’t known. The condition can occur randomly, but it has also been seen to occur during puberty, pregnancy, or after taking certain medications. It doesn’t occur in men.

The breast growth can occur over the course of a few years, but there have been some cases of gigantomastia where a woman’s breasts grew three or more cup sizes within a few days. Other symptoms include breast pain, posture problems, infections, and back pain.

While gigantomastia is considered a benign (noncancerous) condition, it can be physically disabling if not treated. In some cases, the condition resolves on its own, but many women with gigantomastia will need to have breast reduction surgery or a mastectomy.

Gigantomastia also goes by other names, including breast hypertrophy and macromastia.

Gigantomastia is rare but there are no estimates for the number of women who have it, according to the US Department of Health.

The condition can cause stretching of the skin leading to sores appearing.

Breast hypertrophy can affect both breasts, or in some cases just one.
