Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Wednesday said the boy in a viral video begging his mother to calm down while punishing him for an offence he committed inspired his special Sallah message to the good people of Lagos State because of the deeper meaning it conveys.
The boy was seen in a video which left social media users laughing, appealing to his mother to “calm down and rest a little,” while begging her to pardon and give him a last chance. He said “this is my last chance,”
In his Sallah message to Lagosians, the Governor on his official twitter handle @jidesanwoolu said he was inspired by the video “because of the deeper meaning it conveys,” urging residents to “calm down.”
He said: “I saw a video of a charming young boy online asking his mom to ‘calm down’ as she was set to punish him for a misdemeanor. “I was moved by his sobriety, which reflected in his promise of “last chance”, when confronted with the fact that he is a regular offender.
“The exchange was indeed funny, but it depicted the efforts parents put in moulding children into responsible adults. I want to assume that his mom indeed calmed down because the appeal was moving enough to make anyone change their mind.
“Interestingly, the video inspired this special message to the good people of Lagos State because of the deeper meaning it conveys. “Fellow Lagosians, we need to ‘calm down’ as we enjoy the coming holiday and festivity.
“It is a commemoration of Prophet Ibrahim’s heart of sacrifice and faith in Allah. We need to emulate and demonstrate his sense of self- restraint at this time the world is combating the scourge of #COVID19.
“We need to be moderate in our celebration and observe prescribed protocols towards defeating the deadly coronavirus. The world needs the responsibility and commitment of its people to oust coronavirus. “I urge every Lagosian to ‘calm down’ and not get carried away.
Like the rest of the world, we are still in the middle of a pandemic and need to remain extremely careful to keep the gains of the sacrifices we have all made in the past months. Let’s calm down!” Sanwo-Olu also expressed willingness to meet the boy.
“As an aside, I would like to meet the young boy since we both now have exclusive rights to the phrasal verb ‘calm down’. Slightly smiling face,” Sanwo-Olu said.

In search of greener pastures, Nigerians in significant numbers have been landing in Dubai, one of the most populous cities in the United Arab Emirates over a decade only to find dashed hopes forcing them into a new reality of economic hardship.
Most of these victims are now either undocumented or have overstayed their Visa, they invariably have had only the most basic education and are left with poor employment opportunities and as such have no economic power to sponsor their trips back home.
Apart from the seeming hardship Covid-19 brought to these set of Nigerians abroad, their situation took another terrible turn after the United Arab Emirates on July 21, 2020, issued Nigerians whose visas have expired to leave the country before August 17, 2020, or face the wrath of the law.
Some of the affected Nigerians in the video disclosed that they couldn’t afford the evacuation fee. Hammed Sherifdeen who works at a Filipino restaurant as a waiter, said his salary is AED 1300 (About N161,000) but he lost the job.
He furthered, “I only get two months salary out of four months I used to work for them, and I realized they my Visa was not done last year December, the shop went bankrupt they closed the place since last year December, and since then I have been squatting around, sleeping at bus station sometimes and there’s no help from anybody. I can’t even feed well I just need help to go back to my country”
Another contract staff who identifies himself simply as James said, “Things are now very difficult for us here, we hardly get our salaries paid on time, for me, I can’t afford the evacuation fee, I can only appeal to the Nigerian government to come to our aid.
“For four months now that Covid-19 pressure started, I have not received any salary from my employer, myself and several other Nigerians are now living in fear, we have contacted the embassy for evacuation but the amount required is too expensive.”
A Nigerian clergyman, Pastor Humble Okoro, has carried out a funeral service for late George Floyd in Mbaise, Imo State.
Leadership reports that Pastor Okoro while carrying out the funeral, said
“I have traced the ancestral root of George Obinna Floyd to Umuoffor kindred in Obokwu obibi Aboh Mbaise Imo State and I feel so happy now that we have reburied him alongside with his ancestors.”
46-year-old Floyd was killed in Minneapolis, Minnesota, during an arrest for allegedly using a counterfeit bill in May this year. He was buried in Houston on June 6.
Microsoft co-founder, Bill Gates has lamented that “titillating” misinformation has a tendency to spread faster than the truth.
Gates said this while calling on Tesla and SpaceX Chief Executive Officer, CEO, Elon Musk to stay in his lane.
This is in reaction to the automaker enterpreneur’s controversial comments about COVID-19.
In a interview on CNBC, Billionaire Bill Gates said, “Facts travel slowly on social media compared with ‘negative’ misinformation, which makes it difficult for companies like Facebook and Twitter to strike a balance.
“Elon’s positioning is to maintain a high level of outrageous comments.
“He’s not much involved in vaccines. He makes a great electric car. And his rockets work well. So he’s allowed to say these things. I hope that he doesn’t confuse areas he’s not involved in too much.”
Musk has been skeptical about some of the restrictions put in place by governments to quell the spread of COVID-19.
The Tesla CEO had described California’s stay-at-home order as “fascist” in nature, calling on the government “Give people back their goddamn freedom.”
Later on in a tweet, the automaker pointed out that the number of COVID-19 cases was rising dramatically while the number of deaths was not.
He tweeted, “There are a ridiculous number of false positive COVID-19 tests, in some cases, 50%. False positives scale linearly with number of tests.
“This is a big part of why COVID-19 positive tests are going up while hospitalizations and mortality are declining. Anyone who tests positive should retest.”
Also in a New York Times interview published Saturday, the billionaire Tesla CEO said, “I think the reality of COVID-19 is that it is dangerous if you’re elderly and have pre-existing conditions.
“It absolutely makes sense to have a lockdown if you’re vulnerable. I do not think it makes sense to have a lockdown if you’re not vulnerable.”

Indications have emerged that President Muhammadu Buhari might have made up his mind to discard Ibrahim Magu as the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission going by his actions and body language.
Although Buhari has characteristically not uttered a word since the current travails of Magu started, he has nevertheless before then taken certain actions indicative of the fact that his trust in the EFCC boss had begun to wane.
Most notable among Buhari’s actions against Magu was his wholesale acceptance of the report of the three-man Presidential Audit Committee on the Recovered Assets, PACRA, which indicted the EFCC boss without his knowledge and input.
Buhari had raised the panel to audit all assets recovered between May 29, 2015, and November 22, 2017, and gave them four months to turn in their report.
However, the panel headed by Mr. Olufemi Dominic Lijadu, with Mohammed Nami as Secretary and Mrs. Gloria Bibigha as member, took ten months to complete the audit while Buhari formally accepted the report on September 11, 2018, and gave them a pat on the back for a ‘job well done’.
Mr. President at the ceremony assured the panellists that he would take concrete steps to implement the report in order to eliminate corruption in MDAs.
Ostensibly to demonstrate Buhari’s satisfaction with the members of the committee and its work, the three members were promptly rewarded with plump jobs by the Presidency.
While the chairman of the committee, Mr Olufemi Dominic Lijadu, was rewarded with the chairmanship of the Security and Exchange Commission, SEC, the Secretary, Mr. Mohammed Nami was given the chairmanship of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS, while the only female member, Mrs. Gloria Bibigha, said to be a forensic accounting specialist, now works in the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation.
It was on the basis of the ‘report’, which raised several accusations against Magu-led EFCC, that the AGF based his recommendations to Buhari to replace him with any of the three persons he recommended, one of them being the current FCT Police Commissioner, Bala Ciroma.
From the document, virtually all the allegations contained in Malami’s allegations against Magu, apart from those of insubordination, lack of cooperation to extradite former Petroleum Minister, Alison Diezani Madueke and lack of information to prosecute the Production and Industrial Development Company’s case, were lifted directly from the PACRA report, which Buhari forwarded to the Justice Ayo Salami Presidential Investigative Panel, which is currently probing Magu.
The PACRA report is also the basis of the current feud between the Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami and Magu.
The anger that is currently boiling in Magu’s camp stems from the realisation that the PACRA committee, which seriously indicted him, did not deem it necessary to consult or speak to him throughout the ten months that they went to EFCC offices nationwide inspecting the assets that he risked his life and staff to seize from corrupt elements.
A source in Magu’s camp said the suspended chairman felt short-changed by the committee, which provided the ‘false premise’ upon which he is now being subjected to unnecessary trial.
“But curiously, this presidential committee did not get in touch or take up issues from Magu or the secretary to the commission over its findings. But they still went ahead and delivered a ‘report’ against Magu without giving him fair hearing and the report was accepted and acted on by the Presidency.
“The panel visited the sites of the recovered assets by the EFCC nationwide but decided in its wisdom to ignore Magu, the custodian who suffered to recover these assets for the Federal Government of Nigeria. And to make matters worse, the President accepted the Report and proceeded to act on it,” the source lamented.
It was also based on the submission of the Lijadu panel’s report that the Presidency boasted last week that there was documented evidence of allegations against Magu warranting the probe.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media, Garba Shehu, who signed the statement said Nigerians should expect surprises from the probe panel but did not say what the surprises were and in what direction they would come.
Magu is now under pressure to defend himself and he may have the opportunity to set sight on the gamut of allegations levied against him for the first time this week. He may also be allowed to submit his defence by the panel this week.
A court sentenced former Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak to serve up to 12 years in prison after finding him guilty of crimes involving the multibillion-dollar looting of a state investment fund that brought down his government in a shocking election ouster two years ago.
Najib was calm and stone-faced as he became the first Malaysian leader to be convicted. He has vowed to appeal the verdict and took an oath in brief remarks from the dock before the sentencing that he was unaware of the graft.
Judge Mohamad Nazlan Ghazali sentenced Najib to 12 years in jail on one count of abuse of power, 10 years each for three counts of criminal breach of trust, and 10 years each for three counts of money laundering, as well as a fine of 210 million ringgit ($49.4 million). But he ordered the sentences to run concurrently, meaning Najib will face up to 12 years in jail.
The judge said the sentence was ”appropriate and proportionate” taking into account that Najib had committed the crime from a “position of trust” as prime minister, his final plea and the need to deter others from committing the same crime.
The ruling in the first of his five corruption trials came five months after Najib’s Malay party returned to government as the biggest bloc in an alliance that took power from the reformist government that ousted Najib’s in 2018.
Analysts said the ruling would bolster the prosecution’s case in Najib’s other trials and would signal to the business community the Malaysia’s legal system has strength in tackling international financial crimes. But others cautioned the ruling could be overturned and his political party remains in office.
A Nigerian-born and trained physician, Dr Stella Emmanuel, is trending on social media after delivering an impassioned COVID-19 speech in the U.S. on Monday.
Speaking at a news conference in Washington, Emmanuel claimed that antimalarial drug, hydroxychloroquine, zinc, and antibacterial drug, Zithromax, were effective cures for the virus.
The Nigerian spoke during a news conference held by a group of American doctors under the aegis of “America’s Frontline Doctors” in front of the U.S. Supreme Court in Washington DC.
The doctors are holding a two-day “White Coat Summit” at the Capitol Hill to address what they call a “massive disinformation campaign” surrounding the virus.
Emmanuel dismissed experts’ warning that hydroxychloroquine could cause serious heart problems for coronavirus patients, citing her experience with the use of the drug.
The Nigerian, who was joined by other frontline doctors, said she had successfully treated no fewer than 350 patients with hydroxychloroquine, zinc, and Zithromax.
Emmanuel also said hydroxychloroquine, long touted by President Donald Trump as cure for the virus, could also prevent the disease.
“I know you’re going to tell me that you treated 20 people, 40 people, and it didn’t work. I’m a true testimony.
“So I came here to Washington DC to tell America nobody needs to get sick. This virus has a cure. It is called hydroxychloroquine, zinc, and Zithromax.
“I know you people want to talk about a mask. Hello? You don’t need mask. There is a cure.
“I know they don’t want to open schools. No, you don’t need people to be locked down. There is prevention and there is a cure,” she said.
Emmanuel, who said she had received several threats to have her practice permit revoked, insisted she would continue to administer the drugs on COVID-19 patients to save more American lives.
A five-minute-long video capturing Emmanuel’s passionate speech is currently going viral on various social media platforms.
Dr Simone Gold, a Los Angeles-based emergency medicine specialist, who moderated the news conference, described Emmanuel as a warrior.
“Before I introduce the next guest, I just want to say that I wish all doctors that are listening to this bring that kind of passion to their patients,” Gold said.
The following are excerpts of Emmanuel’s speech:
“Hello, I’m Dr. Stella Emmanuel. I’m a primary care physician in Houston, Texas.
“I actually went to medical school in West Africa, Nigeria, where I took care of malaria patients, treated them with hydroxychloroquine and stuff like that.
“So I’m actually used to these medications. I’m here because I have personally treated over 350 patients with COVID-19. Patients that have diabetes, patients that have high blood pressure, patients that have asthma, old people … I think my oldest patients are 92 … 87 year olds.
“And the result has been the same. I put them on hydroxychloroquine, I put them on zinc, I put them on Zithromax, and they’re all well.
“For the past few months, after taking care of over 350 patients, we’ve not lost one. Not a diabetic, not a somebody with high blood pressure, not somebody who asthma, not an old person.
“We’ve not lost one patient. And on top of that, I’ve put myself, my staff, and many doctors that I know on hydroxychloroquine for prevention, because by the very mechanism of action, it works early and as a prophylaxis.
“We see patients – 10 to 15 COVID-19 patients, everyday. We give them breathing treatments. We only wear surgical mask. None of us has gotten sick. It works.
“So right now, I came here to Washington DC to say, America, nobody needs to die.
“The study that made me start using hydroxychloroquine was a study that they did under the NIH in 2005 that says it works.
“Recently, I was doing some research about a patient that had hiccups and I found out that they even did a recent study in the NIH, which is our National Institute … that is the National … NIH, what? National Institute of Health.
“They actually had a study and go look it up. Type hiccups and COVID-19, you will see it. They treated a patient that had hiccups with hydroxychloroquine and it proved that hiccups is a symptom of COVID-19.
“So, if the NIH knows that treating the patient with hydroxychloroquine proves that hiccup is a symptom of COVID-19, then they definitely know that hydroxychloroquine works.
“I’m upset. Why I’m upset is that I see people that cannot breathe. I see parents walk in, I see diabetic sit in my office knowing that this is a death sentence and they can’t breathe. And I hug them and I tell them, “It’s going to be okay. You’re going to live.”
“And we treat them and they leave. None has died. So if some fake science, some person sponsored by all these fake pharma companies comes out says, “We’ve done studies and they found out that it doesn’t work.” I can tell you categorically it’s fixed science.
“I want to know who is sponsoring that study. I want to know who is behind it because there is no way I can treat 350 patients and counting and nobody is dead and they all did better.
“I know you’re going to tell me that you treated 20 people, 40 people, and it didn’t work. I’m a true testimony. So I came here to Washington DC to tell America nobody needs to get sick.
“This virus has a cure. It is called hydroxychloroquine, zinc, and Zithromax. I know you people want to talk about a mask. Hello? You don’t need mask. There is a cure.
“I know they don’t want to open schools. No, you don’t need people to be locked down. There is prevention and there is a cure.
“And let me tell you something, all you fake doctors out there that tell me, ‘Yeah. I want a double-blinded study’. I just tell you, quit sounding like a computer, double blinded. I don’t know whether your chips are malfunctioning, but I’m a real doctor. I have radiologists, we have plastic surgeons, we have neurosurgeons, like Sanjay Gupta saying, ‘Yeah, it doesn’t work and it causes heart disease.’
“Let me ask you Dr Sanjay Gupta. Hear me. Have you ever seen a COVID-19 patient? Have you ever treated anybody with hydroxychloroquine and they died from heart disease?
“When you do, come and talk to me because I sit down in my clinic every day and I see these patients walk in everyday scared to death.
“I see people driving two, three hours to my clinic because some ER doctor is scared of the Texas board or they’re scared of something, and they will not prescribe medication to these people.
“I tell all of you doctors that are sitting down and watching Americans die. You’re like the good Nazi … the good one, the good Germans that watched Jews get killed and you did not speak up.
“If they come after me, they threaten me. They’ve threatened to … I mean, I’ve gotten all kinds of threats. Or they’re going to report me to the bots.
“I say, you know what? I don’t care. I’m not going to let Americans die. And if this is the hill where I get nailed on, I will get nailed on it. I don’t care.
“You can report me to the bots, you can kill me, you can do whatever, but I’m not going to let Americans die.
“And today I’m here to say it, that America, there is a cure for COVID-19. All this foolishness does not need to happen. There is a cure for COVID-19.
“There is a cure for COVID-19 and it is called hydroxychloroquine. It’s called zinc. It’s called Zithromax. And it is time for the grassroots to wake up and say, ‘No, we’re not going to take this any longer. We’re not going to die.’
“Because let me tell you something, when somebody is dead, they are dead. They’re not coming back tomorrow to have an argument. They are not coming back tomorrow to discuss the double blinded study and the data.
“All of you doctors that are waiting for data, if six months down the line you actually found out that this data shows that this medication works, how about your patients that have died? You want a double blinded study where people are dying? It’s unethical.
“So guys, we don’t need to die. There is a cure for COVID-19.”
Harry and Meghan will never resume official roles following the bombshell biography that laid bare their rift with the Royal Family.
The book titled “Finding Freedom: Harry and Meghan and the Making of a Modern Royal Family” reveals their soured relationship with the British Royal Family and, according to Daily Mail, it is likely to ruin any hopes of renegotiating their royal duties.
The revelations made in the book will also harm efforts to repair their rift with Harry’s brother William and sister-in-law Kate.
The publication adds that sources believe the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have “torpedoed” any chance of creating a new position with the help of the Queen and senior royals when their “trial period” in the US ends.
A royal household source said, according to Daily Mail, “The door will always be open to them as much-loved members of the family.
“But it’s hard to see how they can now salvage the new role they wanted as ‘hybrid’ royals, running commercial careers alongside royal duties from the US.”
Another source told the Mail: “The review period has not yet been discussed but it doesn’t seem if there is any way of going back now. Some very private family matters have now been aired in public, seemingly with their blessing. That will be hurtful.”
The one-year “probationary” period was designed to give all members of the family breathing space and allow Harry and Meghan to establish their independent new lives, while offering them the chance to return to the royal family if they changed their minds.
But according to the publication, multiple sources believe the way the couple have conducted themselves in Los Angeles and now the bombshell book have put an end to any hope of their returning to the royal family in a working role.
One senior figure added: “Given the state of the world this just seems so ill-timed. The Sussexes need to move on.”
Harry and Meghan have publicly denied giving an interview to the authors of Finding Freedom: Harry and Meghan and the Making of a Modern Royal Family, or of “contributing” to the book. However, their statement failed to address whether they had given permission for their closest friends, staff and associates to collaborated with it.
Authors, Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand say they have written the book with the “participation of those closest to the couple” and boasted of having access to Harry and Meghan’s personal and professional “inner circle”.
The book has detailed the increasingly bitter relationship between Harry and William, as well as the rollercoaster romance that saw the couple declare their love for each other within three months of dating.
Key points made in the book are:
Harry was so entranced by Meghan he convinced himself she was the woman who he would marry after only their second date.
Meghan used to tip off the paparazzi when working as an actress in Canada, despite her later going on to claim she didn’t understand the ‘tabloid culture’.
Meghan’s friends claimed she endured prejudice from the royal household, with a senior staff member overheard telling a colleague: ‘There’s just something about her I just don’t trust.’
Harry believed William was a ‘snob’ for urging him not to rush into his relationship with Meghan, worrying his brother was being ‘blindsided by lust’. The brothers have barely spoken since.
Meghan was ‘disappointed’ that Kate did not welcome her into the family and found her frosty.
One senior royal referred to the ex-actress as ‘Harry’s showgirl’.
Harry felt ‘unprotected’ by his family and disparaged within palace walls for being ‘too sensitive and outspoken’.
Senior courtiers in other households felt that the global popularity of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex ‘needed to be reined in’,
A tearful Meghan told friends about their decision to quit royal duties: ‘I gave up my entire life for this family.’
Popular media personality, Toke Makinwa, has reacted to online reports alleging that her Banana Island home was seized by the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria, AMCON.
The report made the rounds on Nigerian Twitter on Monday as some Nigerians claimed that her ”Banana Island property” had been taken over by AMCON.
However, Toke in a statement released this evening by her publicist, Andrea Manuela Giaccaglia, said the popular Vlogger is the sole owner of her Ikoyi property and that it has not been confiscated by AMCON.
The statement read: “’On behalf of Ms. Toke Makinwa, we would like to address the rumour circulating the internet that Ms. Toke Makinwa’s alleged house in Banana Island was taken over by the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON).
“Toke’s is the sole owner of her residence in Ikoyi.”
She threatened to take legal action against the originators of the report that her house has been taken over by AMCON.
“Our lawyers have been contacted and legal action will be taken against the originators of this story,” the statement added.
