Black people in the UK four times more likely to die from Covid-19 than white people, new data shows

Black people in the UK four times more likely to die from Covid-19 than white people, new data shows

Black people in the UK are four times more likely to die from Covid-19 than white people and a number of other ethnic groups are also at an increased risk, according to new data released Thursday.

A report by the Office for National Statistics found black women (defined by the study as Black Caribbean, Black African and Black Other) are 4.3 times more likely to die with Covid-19 than white women, while black men are 4.2 more likely to die.

People of Bangladeshi, Pakistani, Indian, and mixed ethnicities also had a “statistically significant raised risk of death,” the report found.

The disparities are “partly a result of socio-economic disadvantage and other circumstances, but a remaining part of the difference has not yet been explained,” the study said.

Even after taking into account age, demographic factors and measures of self-reported health problems, black people were still almost twice as likely to die from Covid-19 than white people.

While the report was unable to clearly outline every factor behind the trend, its conclusions make clear the the pandemic — frequently referred to as a “great equalizer” — is anything but.

“It is urgent the causes of this disproportionality are investigated,” the UK’s shadow justice secretary David Lammy tweeted on Thursday, calling the findings “appalling.”

“Action must be taken to protect black men and women — as well as people from all backgrounds — from the virus,” he added.

The data covers the period up to April 10. Its figures are supported by previous studies, which have also found black people in the UK are dying at a far higher rate than their white peers.

An analysis by the Institute for Fiscal Studies think tank found last week that people from black African backgrounds were 3.7 times more likely to die in hospital from the disease than white people.

That study said excess deaths cannot be explained by differences in geography and demography alone — nor is it accounted for by non-hospital deaths.

And the findings also chime with similar reports in the United States, where African Americans have died from Covid-19 at a disproportionately high rate.

In Chicago, 72% of people who died were black, officials said in April, despite African Americans only making up 30% of the city’s population. In Louisiana, African Americans make up 32% of the population, but account for around 70% of deaths.

The UK has the highest coronavirus death toll in Europe, announcing on Wednesday that more than 30,000 people have died since the start of the outbreak.

At Least Ten People In Lagos Government House Test Positive For COVID-19

At Least People In Lagos Government House Test Positive For COVID-19

At least 10 persons at the Lagos state government house in Marina have tested positive for COVID-19.

Akin Abayomi, commissioner for health, broke the news in two tweets on Thursday afternoon.

Abayomi said the development made Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor, and Joke, his wife, to undergo another test for the disease. He said the results came back negative.

The sample of Sanwo-Olu and his wife had been tested after governors were advised to go for test following their exposure to COVID-19 patients.

“I am glad to announce that #COVID19 Incident Commander Governor of Lagos State @jidesanwoolu and the First Lady of Lagos

@jokesanwoolu have consistently tested negative to #COVID19 following three consecutive tests conducted on them recently,” the tweet read.

“However, 10 persons associated with Lagos State House in Marina have tested positive to #COVID19. On behalf of @followlasg, I therefore implore you all to continue to embrace the #MaskUpLagos initiative and observe all precautionary measures.”

Abayomi appealed to residents of the state to adhere to the guidelines of regulatory authorities in order to prevent the spread of the disease.

With a total of 1,308, Lagos has the highest number of infections in the country.

Study Shows Coronavirus Is Found In Semen, Can Be Sexually Transmitted

Study Shows Coronavirus Is Found In Semen, Can Be Sexually Transmitted

A new study suggests that men who have recovered from Coronavirus should be advised to abstain from sex in order to avoid passing the virus on via their semen.

Patients in China who donated samples several days after their virus symptoms had faded were found to show evidence of Covid-19, Telegraph.co.uk reports.

The findings have left scientists worried that the deadly disease could be sexually transmitted, raising the prospect of health chiefs advising people to avoid having sex for a set time after the end of their symptoms.

One of the patients in the study, at Shangqui Municipal Hospital in Henan Province, tested positive for Covid-19 in his semen 16 days after coming down with the virus and three days after clinical recovery.

“Abstinence or condom use might be considered as preventative means for these patients,” the study, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, said.

The research team said Covid-19 could be seeded to the male reproductive tract, especially where there is local inflammation.

“Even if the virus cannot replicate in the male reproductive system it may persist, possibly resulting from the privileged immunity of testes,” they said.

Other experts have pointed out that the study, comprising 38 patients, is relatively small, and that only six of these patients had tested positive for the virus in their semen. Until now, researchers had previously found only 27 viruses in human semen.

It is not known whether the presence of Covid-19 in the testes affects men’s reproductive capability.

Professor Richard Sharpe, from the MRC Centre for Reproductive Health at the University of Edinburgh, said: “As the authors point out, this finding raises the possibility that Covid-19 might also be transmissible via semen – and thus via sexual contact – perhaps including during the recovery phase, which would have disease management implications.

“Whilst this is a small study, that leaves many important questions unanswered – how long after Covid-19 infection does detectable virus persist in semen in those with a semen-positive result?

“It suggests that obtaining answers to such questions should be an additional priority considering our global need to understand the dynamics of person-to-person transmission of Covid-19.”

Initially, public health officials warned people not to have sex if they have symptoms of coronavirus, but this was to avoid transmission via droplets coming out of infected people’s noses and mouths and entering bodies of other people via their mouths, noses or eyes.

However, the result of the new research has led officials to believe that the virus could also be transmitted via the semen.

Allan Pacey, a professor of andrology at the University of Sheffield, said: “This is an interesting paper that shows that RNA for the virus responsible for Covid-19 can be detected in the semen of a proportion – 15.8 per cent – of men with a confirmed infection.

“This opens up the possibility that one route of infection may be through sexual contact, although this was not confirmed in the paper.”

JUST IN: Judge Who Annulled June 12, 1993 Election Dies Of Coronavirus Complications

JUST IN: Judge Who Annulled June 12, 1993 Election Dies Of Coronavirus Complications

Aformer Chief Judge of the Federal Capital Territory, Justice Dahiru Saleh, has passed away.

He was said to have died in Azare, Bauchi State, to suspected Coronavirus complications.

A family source told SaharaReporters that the late Saleh died on Thursday in Bauchi and would be buried in Azare today.

“Yes, he is dead. It’s so sad that we lost our paternal aunty yesterday and our paternal uncle, Justice Dahiru Saleh today.

“He died two hours ago and his funeral prayers is scheduled for Azare, Bauchi State,” the source said.

Interestingly, the late Justice Saleh was the judge, who annulled the June 12, 1993 Presidential election in Nigeria, which is adjudged to be the freest and fairest in the country’s history.

Business tycoon, Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, who ran on the platform of the Social Democratic Party, won that election by popular vote by defeating Bashir Tofa of the National Republican Convention.

Saleh, while taking responsibility for the annulment in an interview in 2016, faulted the failure of MKO Abiola to appeal his decision.

According to the late judge, he hinged his decision on a midnight ruling on June 11, 1993 by Justice Bassey Ikpeme, which held that the election should not have taken place, to annul the exercise.

MKO Abiola died on July 7, 1998 while still in detention after he was arrested by the military regime of late General Sani for declaring himself winner of that election.

9 Weird Sex Positions That Give Double The Pleasure

9 Weird Sex Positions That Give Double The Pleasure

You’ve mastered missionary and you’ve done it doggy style, like, a bazillion times already. Bring on the next position challenge, please!

Instead of resorting to your go-to moves tonight, whip out one of these crazy sex positions for an orgasm you’ve never, ever, experienced before.

Standing Wheelbarrow9 Weird Sex Positions That Give Double The Pleasure

How to: Get into the downward dog yoga position, then have your partner sit at the end of a bed, and grab your legs so you can wrap them around their waist.

Why it’s great: Warning: This freaky sex position is not for beginners! Think of this as downward dog with even better benefits—the deep-thrusting, G-spot hitting kind. You may only be able to stay in this position for a little bit (hello, arm workout), but it’ll definitely be an experience you’ll remember.

Swiss Ball Blitz9 Weird Sex Positions That Give Double The Pleasure

How to: Have your partner sit on a stability ball. Turn away from them and back up onto their lap, sitting between the legs.

Why it’s great: Yet another way to use that stability ball. This is similar to reverse cowgirl—except way more weird and fun because you’re both balancing on a workout ball. Since you’re on top, you maintain control of the movements, which can be faster and deeper, thanks to the extra buoyancy from the exercise tool.

Waterfall9 Weird Sex Positions That Give Double The Pleasure

How to: For this variation of girl on top, have your partner lie with their torso off the edge of bed while you hop on top.

Why it’s great: You’ll both love your views and the fact that you’re totally in control. Plus, all the blood rushing to your partner’s head will create a mind-blowing sensation during climax.

Cross Buttocks9 Weird Sex Positions That Give Double The Pleasure

How to: So you’re probably thinking, “wait…how?” But here’s how this one’s done: Have your partner enter you from missionary position, then slide their legs and chest off your body so their limbs form an “X” with yours.

Why it’s great: Why attempt this one? Well, due to the nature of this position, you’ll feel more of your partner’s body in motion. Plus, you can always reach down to offer a little butt or leg massage while your S.O. thrusts.

Table Top9 Weird Sex Positions That Give Double The Pleasure

How to: Hop onto your bed, kitchen counter, bathroom sink—really any surface you happen to be near in the heat of the moment. Then, bring your knees together and twist to one side. Have your partner enter you from this position.

Why it’s great: This crazy sex position puts you two at the same level (which is especially great if you’re different heights). Plus it’s perfect for that I-need-you-right-this-second sexy quickie.

Golden Arch9 Weird Sex Positions That Give Double The Pleasure

How to: Have your partner sit with his legs straight, and then you sit on top of him with bent knees over his thighs. Then, you both lean back and let the pleasure commence.

Why it’s great: Similar to the spider, this head-to-toe position is a great opp to have a full view of each other’s bodies. Pro tip: Lean back farther to help this position really hit your G-spot, and have your partner rub your clit at the same time. Blended orgasm, anyone?

David Copperfield9 Weird Sex Positions That Give Double The Pleasure

How to: Place a pillow under your hips. Bend your knees and place them on your partner’s shoulders while they perform oral on you.

Why it’s great: This weird sex position may not seem quite as WTF-worthy as the others on this list, but let’s just say the orgasm result is beyond wild and crazy. The magic here is all in the pillow, placed strategically under your butt. Doing so raises your pelvis to allow a guy to orally stimulate you in the best way possible.

Snow Angel9 Weird Sex Positions That Give Double The Pleasure

How to: This is basically missionary position with an upside-down twist. Lie on your back and have your partner straddle you facing away. Lift your legs and wrap them around their back to elevate your pelvis so they can enter you. Grab your partner’s butt to help him slide up and back.

Why it’s great: Don’t let the ethereal name fool you—this weird sex position will definitely make you feel totally naughty. Plus, from this position, you have easy access to fondle your partner’s erogenous zones. Not to mention, your partner’s pelvis is perfectly positioned to grind against your clit. Try adding a little sexy butt massage to the mix, too.

Butter Churner9 Weird Sex Positions That Give Double The Pleasure

How to: Lie on your back with your legs raised and folded over so that your ankles are on either side of your head, while your partner squats and penetrates you.

Why it’s great: Fair warning: Your neck may get a cramp, but for a great orgasm, it’s worth the risk. Plus, this seemingly weird sex position lets your partner penetrate even deeper for an awesome sensation. Just tell them to go easy on the thrusts to avoid too much pressure on your upper body.

You’re Welcome!

FG Clears The Air On People Who Are Exempted From Curfew

FG Clears The Air On People Who Are Exempted From Curfew

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, has warned security officials that journalists are exempted from the nationwide curfew imposed by President Muhammadu Buhari.

There have been reported cases of journalists clashing with policemen and other law enforcement agents over whether they are allowed to move around from 8pm.

But Mustapha, who is also the chairman of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19, made it clear that the media is part of essential services.

At PTF’s daily briefing on Wednesday, he highlighted the role of journalists, making it clear that Buhari categorised journalists among those who could move freely.

“Journalists are part of the essential service. Because, whatever we do here, if you don’t report it, then the news item will not get out to the population.

“We will look at the issue that happened in Lagos; the Minister of Information will take that up,” he said.

On medical professionals facing similar challenges, Mustapha said: “We will look at that. If it is the release of the protocol that did not consider that I believe that the national coordinator, who has the primary responsibility of dealing with that, would take a look at it and see how best to handle it.”

The curfew Buhari imposed from Monday, May 4 is from 8pm to 6am.

Daughter Nabs Mother In Bed With Her Husband.

Tragedy as a 28-year-old lady identified as Mrs. Ifeoluwa Fehintola allegedly stabbed her mother, Ruth Shodeya to death for allegedly catching her having sex with her husband on their matrimonial bed.

Within Nigeria learnt that the incident occured in the residence of her husband situated in Owode Ede, a community in Osun state.

According to the report, the 44-year old woman visited her daughter for two weeks during the COVID-19 lockdown and in the process seduced her husband.

It was further learnt that Mrs Shodeya and her son-in-law were reportedly engaged in sex romp when her daughter, who went to the market to buy things, returned and caught them.

According to report, she reportedly rushed to the kitchen and took a knife and stabbed her mother who bled profusely and eventually declared dead on arrival at a nearby hospital where she was rushed to for medical intervention.

Narrating the incident to the police after she was arrested and detained, Mrs Fehintola told police during interrogation that she committed the crime out of anger.

“I went to the market to buy some food items but before I could get back home I met my husband and my mother on our matrimonial bed. I had wanted to killed the both of them; my husband managed to escape but my mother couldn’t as I stabbed her on the chest” Ifeoluwa said.

She went further: “My mother has been like that since we were small. She goes around with different men. Even when my father was alive, she cheats on him. After my father’s death, she got so balanced with her wayward life that there’s no man she can’t allow to sleep with her. I couldn’t imagine that she will stoop so low to the level of my husband. She only came to spend two weeks with us and she has already shattered my home for me.

How returned $311m Abacha loot will be spent.

The Presidency on Tuesday said that the $311 million General Sani Abacha loot which was returned to the country on Monday would be used to fund ongoing projects.

In an explanatory statement he issued in Abuja, Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President (Media & Publicity), confirmed the return of the money to the country from the United States and the Bailiwick of Jersey.

He said the money had already been earmarked for ongoing infrastructure projects including second Niger Bridge, the Lagos-Ibadan, Abuja-Kaduna-Kano highways and Mambilla Power Project.

While recalling similar stolen funds that have been returned to the country over the years, he alleged that corruption under previous administrations had hindered the return of looted funds.

According to him, the return of the latest tranche of Abacha loot was an indication of the deepening relationship between the government of Nigeria and the US government.

The statement read: “On Monday, May 4, 2020, some $311 million- stolen from the citizens of Nigeria during the Abacha regime – were safely returned to our country from the United States.

“These funds have already been allocated and will be used in full for vital and decades-overdue infrastructure development: The second Niger Bridge, the Lagos-Ibadan and Abuja-Kaduna-Kano highways–creating tens of thousands of Nigerian construction jobs and local skills, which can then be useful in future projects.

“Part of the funds will also be invested in the Mambilla Power Project which, when completed, will provide electricity to some three million homes – over 10 million citizens – in our country.

“The receipt of these stolen money – and the hundreds of millions more that have already been returned from the United Kingdom and Switzerland – are an opportunity for the development of our nation, made far harder for those decades the country was robbed of these funds.

“Indeed, previous money returned last year from Switzerland – some $320 million– are already being used for the government’s free school feeding scheme, a stipend for millions of disadvantaged citizens, and grain grants for those in severe food hardship.

“Without these funds, the fight against COVID-19 would be even tougher.

“The latest return is a testament to the growing and deepening relationship between the government of Nigeria and the government of the United States.

“Without the cooperation both from the UK government, the US executive branch and US Congress, we would not have achieved the return of these funds at all.

“For years many countries deemed successive Nigerian administrations as too corrupt, too venal and too likely to squander and re-steal the stolen monies – so they did not return the funds.

“Today, US, UK and other jurisdictions have found the partnership with the nation of Nigeria they can finally trust.”

Earlier Abacha loot repatriations under previous successive governments as stated by Channels TV include the followings:
