Lagos Taskforce Impounds 92 ‘Okada’ In A Fresh Clamp Down

Impounded Okada

The Lagos State Taskforce on environmental on Tuesday impounded 92 motorcycles popularly called Okada at Jakande Estate gate, Ejigbo and environs.

This was part of measures to rid the state of Okada as means of transportation in the state and plan by the government to replace it with mini buses procured by the state government.

In a Tweet by a special adviser to the state governor on new media,  Jubril A. Gawat, he said there was resistance from the commercial motorcycle operators but they were subdued by the task force.

“The Lagos State Taskforce today impounded 92 motorcycles from Jakande gate, Ejigbo and environs this morning. “There were attacks on officers by the Okada Riders but they were neutralized and arrested without any casualty,” Gawat wrote in the Tweet.

On Monday, Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu advised those who have taken up Okada riding for lack of job to embrace its scheme on wealth creation and poverty alleviation as the state moves to ban the use of Motorcycle as means of transport in the state.

Sanwo-Olu, who spoke at a Stakeholders’ Meeting on Security in Ikeja noted that “a decisive action would be taken on commercial motorcycles.”

The Governor said the string of lawlessness daily witnessed from the confrontation between commercial motorcyclists and law enforcement agencies required urgent action.

“We have noted with dismay the fact that Okada riders are disregarding and flouting the restrictions we imposed on their activities in certain areas of the metropolis.

“We have also observed with dismay, the ongoing violent confrontation by commercial motorcyclists against our law enforcement agencies.

“Based on all that we have seen and experienced in the past couple of weeks, as well as the increasing threat posed by the activities of commercial motorcycle operators to the safety and security of lives, we will be announcing further changes to the parameters of motorcycle and tricycle operations in the State in the coming days,” Sanwo-Olu said.

Man Tenders Resignation Letter To His Family To Quit His Position As First Son

Man Tenders Resignation Letter To His Family To Quit His Position As First Son Of The Family Due To Responsibilities.

A Nigerian man identified as Onukwubiri Ifeanyi Kingsley has written a letter to his family informing them of his decision to step down as the first son of the family, due to the huge financial burden on him.

According to Kingsley, the first son position is a disadvantage to him as he complained that it has been a total liability, a setback by increasing his responsibilities in the family.

He went further to say that he has forfeited the position to his immediate younger brothers, Ikenna and Victor as well as all the entitlements that are due to a first son.

He concluded by stating that he should no longer be addressed from henceforth as the first son and he’s willing to be the last child of the family.

The letter reads as below:

Chief Rex Onukwubiri

Dear Father,

RENUNCIATION OF FIRST SON POSITION

I think it will be time-saving if I avoid the usual preliminary pleasantries and jump straight into the purpose of this letter and I hope you will be kind enough to accord this letter a dispassionate assessment. After years of deep reflection, I have come to the conclusion that the position of first son increases my family problems.

The position is a total liability to me, a setback, and a thorn in my flesh, hence I am writing to formally inform you that I have renounced my position as your first son in the family and I am willing to allow my immediate younger brother, Ikenna, to take over the position if he so desires.

By this letter, I am also relinquishing all my entitlements and heritage as your first son to Ikenna and Victor and they are free to treat all these entitlements as they wish. I will therefore plead that going forward, I should no longer be addressed as the first son of your family; I am willing to become the last born, if possible.

Thank you for your understanding.

Your son,

Ifeanyi Onukwubiri

Impeach Buhari If He Cannot Deliver On Security – Northern Elders Forum

Buhari

The Northern Elders Forum (NEF), says President Muhammadu Buhari should be impeached if he cannot solve Nigeria’s insecurity problem.

Speaking on AIT’s ‘Kakaaki’ programme on Monday, the spokesman for the group, Baba-Ahmed said the nation cannot wait two more years for Buhari to address the issues of insecurity.

He said those who have constitutional responsibility must realise that the country is in a dire state, and do something other than just talking and making promises.

“One option we have is that the legislators will look at the record of the administration, understand the areas where the president has failed, understand areas where there is clearly no evidence that they’re going to do anything about it and refer to the constitution that says the whole purpose of government is to secure citizens and pursue their welfare,” Baba-Ahmed said.

“If he (Buhari) fails to do that, for me, those are impeachable offences. In the last six months, two years, what has the president done different to secure the country? Absolutely nothing has been done and yet you see increasing failure of the state to protect citizens.”

He said the second option is for citizens to get together and decide to do something.

“The third option is that those leaders who are failing will recognize the fact that they are the problem, and they will resign because they clearly have nothing to offer in terms of leadership,” he said.

“Or, as our democratic system provides, those with the responsibility to get them off, should impeach those who are failing. If the president can’t deliver, he should be impeached.

“We don’t have a national assembly that appears to have the levels of patriotism and concern beyond partisan politics to realise that when this roof falls, it also falls on their heads. Partisanship is so pronounced that the people we elected and sent to Abuja think they serve the president rather than the Nigerian people.”

Baba-Ahmed also called on the president to arrest the prominent persons allegedly sponsoring insecurity in the country.

He said: “I wish he would arrest just two, three of these enemies of the state and deal with them. We are tired of hearing the president and his spokespeople saying there are enemies of the state. Enemies of the state is defined clearly under law.

“If there are people who are causing this insecurity, the government has evidence that they’re doing so, then in the name of God, let the president arrest these people, bring them up, show Nigerians what they’re doing, and then show evidence that the government is actually dealing with insecurity.”

Troops Rescue 18 Abducted Persons, Kill 48 Terrorists In Northwest Nigeria

Troops of the Nigerian Army in Zamfara State, Northwest Nigeria recorded some successes in their war against terrorism after killing 48 terrorists in the state in a series of operations.

Nigerian Army troops killed 48 terrorists and rescued 18 terror victims in a series of operations carried out between Tuesday, March 23, and Saturday, April 3, in Zamfara State, Northwest Nigeria, a statement by the army said.

Mohammed Yerima, the Director of Nigerian Army Public Relations said in a statement on Monday, May 10, troops of 8 Division, Nigerian Army operating in Zamfara and adjoining states made progress in the fight against banditry and other violent crimes in the Northwest.

The Division had earlier launched Operation Tsare Mutane following the directives of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru for the Division to stabilise the area to facilitate the return of socio-economic activities, Yerima, a Brig. Gen. said.

He explained that the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 8 Division, Usman Yusuf, a Maj-Gen launched the first phase of Operation Tsare Mutane which lasted between March 23 and April 2, in Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

According to the Army spokesperson, the troops cleared many terrorist camps in Jaya, Kadaya, and Bayan Ruwa among several others, adding that they killed 48 terrorists, while their leader, known as Jummo sustained a gunshot wound to his leg.

Yarima stated that 18 kidnap victims were rescued during the operations while eight AK-47 rifles, one G3 rifle, one PKT, and a Machine Gun, were recovered.

As part of the second phase of Operation Tsare Mutane, he stated that the troops also sacked several other terrorist camps around Gabiya, Bozaya, Mereri, and the adjoining forests in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State from April 19 to May 3.

During the operations, he said terrorists’ leaders including Yellow Mai-Bille, Sani Meli, Dan-Katsina, and Sama’ila Bakajin Bari were killed while the main leader Nasanda narrowly escaped with fatal injuries.

Yarima said one Isan Heshi who is a close ally of a notorious terrorist called Nagala was also killed. Items recovered in the second phase of Operation Tsare Mutane include 4,600 rounds of ammunition, two AK-103 rifles, eight AK-47 magazines, 1,628 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, 54 rounds of PKM, one motorcycle, and five Techno mobile phones.

We Receive Weapons From SSS Agents, Split Ransom Payments: Bandits

Armed bandits terrorising different parts of Nigeria have disclosed that they have been receiving arms and ammunition from operatives of the State Security Service and often split ransom payments received at gunpoint.

The criminals told Deutsche Welle in a recent report that they “borrow weapons” from the state agents and then go to work to share ill-gotten gains together.

The bandits also said some police officers have been a part of the conspiracy that has fueled insecurity across Nigeria which President Muhammadu Buhari has been accused of being too lazy to address.

A spokesman for the SSS did not return a request seeking comments from Peoples Gazette about whether or not the secret police was aware of a possible alliance between its officers and armed bandits wreaking havoc across the country.

The report surfaced amidst widespread claims that Nigerian security forces are fueling insecurity for financial benefits. In 2018, Theophilus Danjuma, a former chief of army staff, said the Nigerian military and other state agents were actively supplying weapons to violent criminals waging a war against minority rural settlers in Nigeria’s north-central.

The Buhari administration denied the allegation, but several indications have emerged repeatedly since then that appeared to show that the government was not as concerned about the raging crisis.

Last week, Mr Buhari warned Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue, where armed militia elements have killed thousands and razed hundreds of villages since Mr Buhari assumed power in 2015, to either accept the controversial ruga policy or continue to endure violence with his people.

Last month, Mr Buhari also stood by Isa Pantami, one of his cabinet ministers who was recently exposed as a hardline jihadist and lover of Osama Bin Laden, Al-Qaeda and other groups and persons long associated with terrorism.

South Africa considers new marriage law that will allow women marry more than one man

Women

South Africa’s department of home affairs has proposed a new law that will allow women to marry more than one husband, in the same way, that polygamous men are allowed to marry more than one wife.

The 67-page policy document also called Green Paper on Marriages, stated that the current marriage act does not promote equality.

The policy document highlighted that the current marriage legislation is discriminatory as it does not recognize Hindu, Jewish, Muslim, and Rastafarian marriages. The policy document also called for polyandry to be legally recognized as a form of marriage.

The Green Paper proposed three new marriage regimes to bring equality in marriage laws. One of these options is a gender-neutral marriage regime.

It read; “This would accommodate both polygyny and polyandry

“Therefore all marriages, whether monogamous or polygamous, could be concluded regardless of the sex or sexual orientation of the person.”

South Africa’s Ministry of home affairs appears to favour the option for a gender-neutral marriage regime that allows both polyandry and polygyny.

The Ministry wrote; “The political appetite of the country to confront the challenges of the current marriage statute will be tested through these options. However, if Section 9 of the Constitution was to be implemented in its entirety, option 3 will tick all the boxes.”

The Ministry however noted that the option for polyandry has ruffled feathers and South Africa’s traditional leaders have vociferously opposed the proposal, claiming that a woman being married to more than one husband is an unacceptable practise because it is not of African origin.

It added; Ironically, stakeholders who believed in the practice of polygamy were opposed to the practice of polyandry.

“This is the beginning of a crucial public discourse that will re-define the concept of marriage in South Africa.

“The process will unearth issues that may make some of us uncomfortable, but will encourage dialogue within the South African and international communities.”

South Africans have until the end of June to comment on the department’s proposals.

Why I Won’t Sympathise With Pastor Adeboye Over His Son’s Death – Sunday Igboho

Igboho in the now-viral video did not mince words when he rained curses on any leader or Pastor who refuses to support the secession agenda, saying God will kill their children and wives.

 Sunday Igboho

Sunday Adeyemo, the Yoruba Nation agitator who is popularly known as Sunday Igboho has said he would not greet or sympathise with Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) General Overseer, Pastor Adeboye, over the demise of his son, Dare.

The Nation reports Adeboye’s son, Dare, 42, died in his sleep on Tuesday, May 4 in Eket, Akwa-Ibom where he was pastoring a church.

He explained that Adeboye is not in support of his Yoruba nation’s cause.

Igboho in the now-viral video did not mince words when he rained curses on any leader or Pastor who refuses to support the secession agenda, saying God will kill their children and wives.

Igboho’s aide, Olayomi Koiki, in the video had asked him (Igboho) to commiserate with Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), over the death of his son, Dare Adeboye.

But the visibly infuriated Igboho asked if the man of God had declared his support for the Yoruba nation.

He said: “Has Baba supported the Yoruba nation that we will now be greeting him? We don’t need to greet Adeboye. What is my own with that? We are not doing church here. This is not religion.

“What we are doing is not about religion. Even our clerics are blocking our path. We don’t need to commiserate with Adeboye, what’s my business with that?

“Adeboye has never spoken about the Yoruba issue. Look at how huge his congregation is, why hasn’t he spoken for the Yoruba Nation? We don’t need to commiserate with him.

“God himself will judge those who have not supported us, may He continue to kill their wives and children since they don’t want us to reach our promised land.

“Whoever does not support Yoruba Nation but have the crowd in their churches, God I invoke you, you own me and everything I own belongs to you, and they have seen how Fulanis kidnap us and demand ransom, continue to kill their wives and children. So be it!”

I Can Do Without Sex For Two Years – Mr Ibu

Nollywood actor, John Okafor popularly known as Mr Ibu, in an interview with Punch has disclosed that many women are attracted to him, though he only has eyes for his wife.

He said, “I am not sex-crazed at all. I can abstain for two years. When I had a problem, I stayed off sex for a long time. I am not controlled by sex. As of now, I have stayed off sex for at least four months. Remember that I was poisoned in December 2020, so I need to recuperate before engaging in such acts. My wife is also missing me. It was not easy for her. She was crying every minute because she genuinely loves me.

“Some people have said that people with potbellies are not good lovers or sexually active but being good on the bed is relative. My answer to this is that I have 13 children (10 boys and two girls) though I lost one of them. That is the evidence of my sexual virility. I hatch children like pigeons.”

Mr Ibu further also insisted that he does not cheat on his wife. He added, “I don’t cheat on my wife. I had children before I married her. I left that life because many women wanted to have children for me but I cannot build a primary school in my house. They liked me because I was good in bed and I’m really grateful for that. I knew what they wanted so I was always very gentle with them. Women are attracted to me but I’m only interested in my wife. My wife is as beautiful as I met her, even after four children.”

The actor also stated that his ailment took a toll on his finances. He said, “I have friends that have been financially supportive. I am sure they remember some good things that I have done for them in the past. I stopped working since 2018 but I saved some money when I was very active and that has helped me a great deal. Some fans were also helpful when I was poisoned. The treatment caused me a lot of money and it has really taken a toll on my finances.”

Leah Sharibu Still In Boko Haram Captivity Because She’s A Christian – Mother

Nigerians React To Leah Sharibu Giving Birth In Boko Haram Captivity

The mother of Leah Sharibu, Rebecca Sharibu has alleged that her daughter has not been rescued from Boko Haram captivity because she is a Christian.

Naija News reports Leah is one of the 110 Dapchi schoolgirls kidnapped by Boko Haram in February 2018 but while other girls have been released by their abductors, she is still with the insurgents three years after the incident.

On Friday, May 14, 2021, Leah will turn 18 years old and except anything changes before then, she would be celebrating her birthday in the den of her kidnappers.

Asked during an interview with Punch correspondent on why she believes her daughter is yet to be rescued by the government, Mrs Sharibu said it is because Leah has refused to denounce her Christian faith.

“I think the reason they have left my daughter in captivity is because she is a Christian. All the other girls that were taken were Muslims and they were all released. But my daughter is still in captivity, I believe, because of her faith. If not, why have they not yet released my daughter? What crime has she committed? She only refused to renounce her Christian faith,” she said.

Mrs Sharibu added that she and her family are awaiting the fulfilment of the promise made by President Muhammadu Buhari on the rescue of their daughter.

He (Buhari) has promised repeatedly; he comes out and says he is going to rescue Leah, but he has not fulfilled it. I don’t know or understand why he has not yet fulfilled his promise. Leah is still in captivity. I don’t know the problem or reasons that he is still leaving my daughter in captivity.

We are still waiting for him, as a family, to fulfill this promise that he made. The best thing to do when you make a promise is to fulfill that promise. That is the only acceptable thing. So, we are still waiting for him as a family.

She further revealed that when the incident first happened, it took about seven months before President Buhari called to speak to her.

She added that after that, a delegation including some Ministers visited them two weeks after the president called then later, the Minister of women affairs also visited but all their visits have not yielded fruitful results as it all looks like media propaganda to make it appear as if they are doing something about the release of Leah.

In her words, “When my daughter was taken away in February 2018, I did not hear from the government; I did not hear from anybody until seven months after. It was then that a video was released of her in a hijab. Boko Haram had released a video to say they had killed one health worker and they said the next person to be killed would be Leah. So, the Leah Foundation organised a world press conference in Jos. We asked the world for help because the next person Boko Haram said they would kill was my daughter. We said we had not heard from the government or anybody as a family and that, as far as we were concerned, we were calling on the international community to plead with the Nigerian government to take action.

The night of the press conference, we got the attention of the government and the President called and spoke with me. That was the first time they (the Presidency) got in touch with us. After speaking to me, he (President) promised that he would do everything possible to bring Leah back.

Two weeks after, he sent three ministers led by the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, to us. He came to Dapchi with two female ministers. When they came, they told me the President had sent them with a very large delegation and the media to say that very soon, Leah would be found. In fact, when they came that day, we thought Leah was coming back because we had just spoken with the President two weeks before. But they just came to register their presence with us as Leah’s parents. They took pictures and it was all over the media that the President sent ministers.

After that time, we never heard anything from anybody in the government until October 2020 when the Minister of Women Affairs (Paulen Tallen) came to Yola (Adamawa State) to pay us a courtesy visit. She told us that she had brought a message from the President, that the President was still working towards fulfilling the promise that he would rescue Leah. Since then, there has been no contact or communication.”

She also noted that insinuations that her daughter has been forcefully converted to Islam and already married to one of her abductors are all rumours which she won’t believe until she sets her eyes on her daughter.

“As far as I was concerned, it was just a video being circulated. I’ve only seen the video; I’ve not seen my daughter. I don’t know what was happening there.”

“All the things they are saying, whether that she is dead or that she is pregnant or has given birth to a second baby, as far as I am concerned, they are all rumours. I have not seen my daughter. I just want to see her. When I see my daughter, then I can confirm anything. But for now, I haven’t heard anything from my daughter and I don’t know where she is. Every day, we hear rumours.”

She however stated that she has not lost hope and believes she would see her daughter once again.

Meanwhile, the General Overseer of The Gospel Faith Mission International, Pastor Elijah Abuna, has lost his son, Emmanuel Folorunso, just as the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, lost his son, Pastor Dare Adeboye.

It gathered that the son of the cleric died on Wednesday, April 28, eight days before pastor Adeboye lost his son, but the press release was released last week.

Emmanuel reportedly died after a brief illness.
