If Yoruba Nation Rally Was In Support Of Buhari, It Is Likely No One Would Stop It — Afenifere

The group stated that if the Lagos rally supported President Muhammadu Buhari, it would likely not be stopped.

In a statement issued by the group’s National Publicity Secretary, Jare Ajayi, it said the Federal government is muzzling freedom of expression in the country.

According to Afenifere, the Yoruba Nation agitators have a right to express their opinions, arguing that what the agitators had done was within the legal permit of the country.

The statement read, “Afenifere believes that in a democratic setting, the citizens have a right to express their opinion peacefully as long as it is done within the law. For that reason, what Ilana Omo Oodua and those who organized the rally in Lagos have done is still within the legal permit of the country.

“Just as our leader, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, said recently, we are a law-abiding organization and we represent the citizens.

” Since the government of Lagos State has given an order that such a rally be suspended, we feel that the rally should have been suspended but not because the government is right.

“This is to show that we are law-abiding. This present government, particularly at the federal level, is muzzling freedom of expression, freedom of association and trying to suppress any organization, body or voice that it feels is against its policies.

“We are sure that if the Lagos rally was done in support of President Muhammadu Buhari, it is not likely to be stopped.

“In any case, the rally was not meant to be against this administration; it was planned to be an avenue to advocate or solicit for the Yoruba Nation.

“Afenifere is a federalist and we maintain that and we believe that people clamoring for secession have a right to clamor as long as it is done within the law and as long as they do not employ violence. We see no reason why the government should stop them.

“All the government ought to have done is to watch them and ensure the rally is not hijacked.

“We believe that with the way it is conducting itself, it is attracting opposition and unnecessary criticism to itself. We feel that the government should change its ways in this regard.”

“They are meeting but no one is sure if it is because of Igboho. Don’t push Yoruba to the wall – Former CBN boss, Mailafia, Gani Adams, others warn

Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Obadiah Mailafia, has warned the Nigerian authorities not to push Yoruba to the wall with the ways and manners the issues of insecurity are being handled in the South West.

Mailafia gave the warning and also sought help of international communities, while speaking as one of the panelists at a conference organized by Yoruba in the Diaspora, under the aegis of Yoruba One Voice (YOV).

The conference, which held at National Press Club, Washington DC, on Thursday night, was aired globally via zoom.

The former CBN boss, in dissecting current security situation in the country, stated that there was a pre-planned genocide going on, but noted that the country would overcome its challenges.

Mailafia said Yoruba are a blessed race with strong conviction and ethos of Omoluabi, adding that Yoruba have the capacity to achieve whatever they want to achieve in the most peaceful manner.

He said: “Yoruba are accommodating people and believe in respect; they respect all authorities, they respect elders. The idea of ‘Omoluabi’ (virtues) is essence of Yoruba culture and decorum. So, Yoruba are not stupid people; when you push them to the wall, they will sooner or later react.

“Let me also say, there is strong bond between the Middle Belt and Yoruba and the South. I come from Southern Kaduna, where there is great Nok civilization, which is very striking because scientists found out that artifacts of Nok civilization are similar to ancient Egypt and Ile-Ife. So, there is a bond of connection there; when Ifa priests want to go very deep in their incarnation, they use a strange language, which is Nupe. Let us build on that. I believe that the destiny of Middle Belt is linked to the destiny of Yoruba and South-South. Greater thing are going to happen, don’t let us give up”.

In his welcome address, the Chairman of the YOV’s Foreign Affairs Department and Organiser of the conference, Debo Adekoya condemned the current state of insecurity in Yoruba land, and noted that his people were tired and ready to go their separate way.

He said: “Our people back home are being attacked and killed by Fulani herdsmen, supported by the Federal Government of Nigeria.”

In his remarks, the Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, who is also the grand patron of the group, said the call for the liberation of the Yoruba race is the legitimate rights of the people, saying events in the Southwest showed that the time is up for the Yoruba to exit the country.

Niger Delta activist, Anniko Briggs, also expressed sadness over current situation in the country and pleaded with international communities to come to their rescue.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu had on Thursday warned secessionists to stay away from Lagos as no protest would be allowed in the state.

But the 100 said the rally would go on as planned and that it would be peaceful.

The group claimed to have written to Odumosu and copied Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu  to ensure that hoodlums did not hijack the protest.

Raid of Sunday Igboho’s Residence By Operatives of the DSS

A prominent Ifa priest, Chief Ifayemi Elebuibon, has described as tragic, the raid by operatives of the Department of State Services on the Ibadan residence of Yoruba rights activist, Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho.

The diviner also said Igboho didn’t abandon his associates who were in his Soka, Ibadan residence when the secret police raided the house early Thursday but rather, the activist ran away to fight another day.

Igboho, whom many believed have metaphysical powers, have been publicly seen putting on African bulletproof vests, some of which were recovered when the DSS raided his residence around 1am on Thursday.

Thirteen of Igboho’s guards and close associates were also arrested and paraded by the DSS while two of his followers were reportedly killed in a gun duel with the secret police. However, Igboho, who said in an interview on Thursday that he was in the house when the DSS came, escaped the raid.

Many have since wondered why Igboho didn’t help his associates to escape but speaking in an interview with BBC Yoruba on Friday monitored by newsmen, Elebuibon said Igboho didn’t abandon his aides but he ran to fight another day.

Responding to questions, the Ifa priest also faulted the Gestapo style in which the DSS raided Igboho’s house. He advised the DSS to learn from their counterparts in civilized nations who effect arrests in a peaceful and non-violent manner.

Elebuibon further stated, “It is not that his (Igboho’s) charms failed him, the whole raid was an attack, an invasion, a tragedy.

“He was not prepared for the attack, it happened all of sudden but he who fights and runs lives to fight another day. A warrior who fights and doesn’t know how to retreat will perish with the battle. He (Igboho) ran to fight another day, he didn’t abandon his followers because if he hadn’t escaped, it would have been a different thing entirely.”

Meanwhile, the secret police has declared Igboho wanted. The activist is being accused of stockpiling weapons to destabilize the country under the guise of agitation for Yoruba nation.
