Tiwa Savage: I might go naked in my next video

Nigerian singer, Tiwa Savage has teased that she might have to go naked in her next musical video shoot in order to beat the accolades her last project received.

The 40-year-old vocalist, who recently put out ‘44-99‘, a song which was accompanied by detailed visuals, was speaking to BBC on what to expect from her forthcoming album entitled ‘Celia’.

“I might just have to go butt naked in my next video, because I don’t know what else I’m going to have to do to top that one!,” Tiwa Savage said.

“And, just to put it out there, this was done in Nigeria. All the cast is Nigerian, the director, the AP, everybody is Nigerian.

“I love the fact that I could present this to the label and say this was done in Africa by Africans, this is what we can do. Imagine when you invest in us even more, you would get amazing work.”

Speaking on what fans are to look out for as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to discourage showbiz releases, Tiwa said she might end up shooting her next video at home using her iPhone.

“We’re going through this pandemic, so the idea was I want to let them know that I’m still a boss, that I’m still beautiful, that I’m still African,” she explained.

“People have been really really creative with it which is amazing. The album is a whole mix of the emotions an African woman goes through: love, aspiration, being bossy, being sexy, being vulnerable.

“All of that is what I think the modern African woman is, and that’s what I wanted to portray. It’s really touched my heart to see that people are having a hard time during this. I mean we’re blessed to be at home, we have light, we can pile up food for months if we want to.

“But there’s some people who can’t, people who only have money for today or food for today. So this pandemic has really opened my heart to the real situation of where the world is right now.”

Last year, Tiwa had left Don Jazzy’s Mavin Records and joined the Universal Music Group (UMG), a US music company that boasts of artistes like Rihanna, Taylor Swift, and Lady Gaga.

The Slovenian government has declared the end of the coronavirus pandemic, becoming the first country in Europe to do so after authorities confirmed less than seven new coronavirus cases each day for the past two weeks.

People now arriving in Slovenia from other European Union states will no longer be obliged to go into quarantine for at least seven days as was the case from early April, the government said in a statement, but a quarantine of at least 14 days will remain in place for people from non-EU states, except for some exemptions including diplomats and people transporting cargo.

As for foreign citizens who show signs of coronavirus infection, they will not be allowed to enter the country.

Citizens will still have to follow basic rules to prevent a possible spread of infection, the government said without elaborating.

They are also required to wear masks in indoor public spaces, stand at least 1.5 metres (5 feet) apart, and disinfect hands upon entering public spaces.

“Slovenia has tamed the epidemic over the past two months… Today Slovenia has the best epidemiological picture in Europe,” Prime Minister Janez Jansa told parliament in a remote session late Thursday.

According to the prime minister, the end of epidemic means some measures, including financial aid to citizens and firms hit by the coronavirus, will expire at the end of May.

Nation Records 11,000 New Coronavirus Cases In 24 Hours

Health Ministry of Brazil has reportedly said on May 13 that it has recorded 11,385 new cases of novel coronavirus within a period of last 24 hours.

It added that this is the highest number of coronavirus cases in a single day since the beginning of the pandemic. Brazilian authorities have reported 749 Covid-19 related fatalities, as per reports. The total number of coronavirus cases in the country stands at 190,137 with 13,240 deaths and is the sixth highest in the world, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

As per reports, Sao Paulo with a population of 46 million people has a coronavirus death toll of 3,600 with more than 44,000 positive cases. The neighbouring state of Rio de Janeiro which has more than 16 million people and has a coronavirus death toll of 1,653 and over 16,929 positive cases. According to reports, despite pressure from President Jair Bolsonaro who has vehemently opposed isolation measures, the governors of Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro have announced that they will be extending quarantine measures till the end of May.

Bolsonaro received criticism

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro perhaps remains the biggest threat to the country’s coronavirus response, said a leading medical journal in its editorial. The Lancet, in the scathing piece, highlighted Bolsonaro’s blatant disregard for sensible measures of physical distancing and lockdown to contain the spread of the deadly virus. The journal said that the Brazilian President is sowing confusion among people by openly flouting COVID-19 measures announced by state governors and city mayors. It added that the disarray at the heart of the administration due to the sacking of health minister and the resignation of the Justice Minister is a “deadly distraction” in the middle of a health emergency. Health Ministry of Brazil has reportedly said on May 13 that it has recorded 11,385 new cases of novel coronavirus within a period of last 24 hours.

Traditional Worshippers Declare They Are Working On Cure For COVID-19, Reveals Herbs To Use

Traditional religion adherents under the umbrella of Traditional Religion Worshipers’ Association of Oyo State (TRWASSO) on Friday declared that the association was currently working on herbal solutions for the prevention and cure of coronavirus, also known as COVID-19.

TRWASSO made this known while meeting with the Oyo State government representatives at the state Secretariat, Ibadan.

TRWASSO’s Secretary, Chief Fayemi Fatunde Fakayode who insisted that pandemic and virus was as old as human being, noted that the association was currently working on local herbs and remedies that will prevent and cure coronavirus.

Fakayode who flanked with President of the association, Surveyor Dasola Fadiran Adefabi, Chief Kusannu Faleye, Akoda of Oyo, Chief Awotoye Adedeji, Balogun Awo Ogbomoso, Chief Abidoye Fakayode, Araba of Egbeda Local Government and Priest Okunade Adigun, Akoda of Lanlate, noted that Nigeria should borrow the Madagascar example which has produced local herbs to tackle coronavirus.

“We are working on herbal remedies and solutions to this coronavirus that is ravaging the whole world. We have said it many times that there is a traditional solution to this coronavirus.

“We are here to contribute our own quota to the development of our state and Nigeria in general. We are here to donate some protective items to the state government to tackle coronavirus.

“Pandemic is as old as human being. It has been existing and our fathers have found a cure. Pandemic is not a new thing in the world. When the pandemic broke out, we proposed to the government what can be done to prevent and cure it. We issued press statements. Government needs to collaborate with us to get the solution ready.

“We have said it many times, and we proposed to the government what can be done. We proposed the use of Akoko leaves, we can hang it at the front of our house to repel the virus. To sanitize our body, we can use palm wine, lettuce and bitter leaves.

“People should squeeze ẹ̀fọ́ yánrin (wild lettuce) and ẹ̀fọ́ ewúro (bitter leaf) inside palm wine and drink responsibly. It can also be rubbed on the body as sanitizer. Also, daily consumption of gúgúrú (Popcorn) is recommended.

“In Madagascar, they are now using herbal remedy; that shows that herbs can prevent and cure coronavirus pandemic.

“We are working on our own herbal remedy for prevention and cure of coronavirus.”

Jeff Bezos On Track To Becoming The World’s First Trillionaire

Jeff Bezos On Track To Becoming The World's First Trillionaire

If Jeff Bezos’ personal fortune keeps growing at its current rate, he could become the world’s first trillionaire by 2026 at the age of 62, according to an analysis from software review site Comparisun.

Bezos’ wealth has been increasing at an average yearly rate of 34% over the past five years, according to Comparisun, and that’s despite turning over Amazon shares worth an estimated $38 billion to his ex-wife, MacKenzie Bezos, as part of their recent divorce settlement.

Comparisun looked at 25 of the world’s richest individuals and found that only 11 had a realistic shot at becoming trillionaires during their lifetime. Bezos will likely get there first, but Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg could be the youngest, with his current growth rate on pace to put him in the four-comma club by 2036, when he would be 51.

Comparisun used Forbes’ Billionaire List to determine Bezos’ personal wealth, but it pulled data from September 2019, meaning its analysis also doesn’t account for gains Bezos has seen during the coronavirus pandemic, which has caused Amazon’s stock to skyrocket as more people turn to online shopping.

Bezos is currently worth around $138 billion and has seen his fortune grow by $28.3 billion so far in 2020, according to Bloomberg .

Bezos isn’t alone there. While the coronavirus has ravaged the economy, forcing 36 million Americans to file for unemployment over the past two months, US billionaires quickly saw their collective wealth rebound by $282 billion, roughly 9.5%, between March 18 (close to when the stock market hit its low point) and April 10, according to a report from the Institute for Policy Studies .

At the same time Amazon’s success continues to boost Bezos’ personal fortune, the company is facing growing criticism of its treatment of workers during the pandemic, including its recent move to drop a $2 per hour pay raise for warehouse employees. Workers have staged multiple protests over working conditions in recent weeks as the number of COVID-19 cases potentially surpassing 400 (Amazon has refused to share official numbers).

Lawmakers and regulators are also turning a closer eye on the company. Officials in New York City and the National Labor Relations Board are both looking into Amazon’s firing of whistleblowers, while Democratic lawmakers recently called for a federal investigation into warehouse conditions.

NCDC Speaks On Revealing Test Results Of Nigerians Evacuated From Dubai, UK And US

NCDC Speaks On Revealing Test Results Of Nigerians Evacuated From Dubai, UK And US

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has told Nigerians not to expect to see the Coronavirus test results of the Dubai, UK and US returnees.

The agency said it does not make such information public, adding that the results will be shared only with the returnees.

NCDC Director-General, Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu stated this during the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 Thursday’s press briefing in Abuja.

The Director-General further disclosed that the returnees are still undergoing the stipulated 14days of self-isolation.

“We are doing the test, even when the tests are out we are not going to offer it to you. We will offer it to the returnees. If they are patients we will manage that.

“We are not going to make public the results whether you just came back from Dubai or you are living in Nigeria. Results are meant for patients who got tested,” he said.

No fewer than 253 Nigerians were recently evacuated from the UK by the Federal Government and 265 others evacuated from Dubai, amid the Coronavirus outbreak.

Some more Nigerians also returned from the United States as countries continue to evacuate their citizens, following the Coronavirus outbreak.
