Leader of the notorious ‘One Million Boys’ gang leader in Ibadan, the Oyo capital, Biola Ebila, has been shot dead by security operatives.
Ebila, who was on the wanted list of the police in the state, was said to have been killed around Olomi area of Ibadan on Sunday afternoon. His death has been confirmed by the Oyo State Police Command.
He was declared wanted by Oyo State Police Command for his alleged involvement in the murder of another Ibadan notorious gang leader, Moshood Oladokun, fondly called Ekugbemi, on Saturday May 11, 2020, and was buried the following day.
Ekugbemi was stabbed to death during a bloody clash with a rival group at Olunde area of Ibadan in Oluyole Local Government area of the state.
The groups that have been terrorising inner parts of Ibadan such as Born Photo, Foko, Isale-Osi, Popoyemoja, Oopeyeosa, Idi-Arere, Kudeti, and so on include One Million Boys, the Indomie Boys and Abe-Igi Boys.
Ebila, leader of the One Million Boys in Ibadan, was reportedly shot dead when he resisted attempts to arrest him by officials of Operation Burst, an Oyo State Joint Security Outfit.
The late Ebila was alleged to have been busted along with some of his gang members by operatives of Operation Burst when they went to kidnap one person, simply identified as Femi.
Ebila and his boys were said to have exchanged fire with the officials of Operation Burst. But his gang members reportedly escaped with his dead body in a car and took the lifeless body to Kudeti and showed the corpse to other members of the gang that did not follow them for the operation.
The development was said to have angered some of his gang members, who immediately unleashed pandemonium on Kudeti, which is their operational headquarters.
In a telephone chat with Daily Sun, the Police Public Relations Officer for the state, Olugbenga Fadeyi, who confirmed Ebila’s death, said some of his gang members brought his corpse to Kudeti area of Ibadan on Sunday and after some people had seen it, drove the lifeless body to an unknown destination.
He stated further that some arrests have also been made because some of his followers wanted to foment troubles in Kudeti area following his death, adding that security personnel have been stationed at strategic places at Kudeti, Idi-Arere, Oke-Oluokun, and other places to forestall breakdown of law and order.

Kelly Preston has died. She was 57.
“On the morning of July 12, 2020, Kelly Preston, adored wife and mother, passed away following a two-year battle with breast cancer,” a family representative tells PEOPLE exclusively.
“Choosing to keep her fight private, she had been undergoing medical treatment for some time, supported by her closest family and friends,” the family rep says. “She was a bright, beautiful and loving soul who cared deeply about others and who brought life to everything she touched. Her family asks for your understanding of their need for privacy at this time.”
Preston is survived by her husband John Travolta and their children: daughter Ella, 20, and 9-year-old son Benjamin. Son Jett died at age 16 in January 2009.
Preston, who was born Kelly Kamalelehua Smith on October 13, 1962, in Honolulu, Hawaii, studied acting at the University of Southern California and launched her career in 1985 with her first major movie role in Mischief after several minor roles in television shows, including For Love and Honor.
In the next few years, Preston starred in films such as SpaceCamp (1986), Twins (1988), Jerry Maguire (1996) and For Love of the Game (1999). Preston’s final film role was in the 2018 film Gotti in which she played Victoria Gotti, the wife of Mafia boss John Gotti, who was portrayed on screen by Travolta.
Along with her career, Preston treasured her decades-long romance with husband Travolta.
On New Year’s Eve 1991, Travolta proposed at the Palace Hotel restaurant in Gstaad, Switzerland, with a six-carat yellow-and-white diamond ring. When they got married on Sept. 5, 1991, Preston was two months pregnant with their son Jett. (The couple later got married for a second time on U.S. soil in Daytona Beach, Florida.)
Last September, Travolta and Preston celebrated their 28th wedding anniversary. “Happy Anniversary to my wonderful wife ♥️ @therealkellypreston,” the Grease actor wrote on Instagram at the time.
Preston wrote a heartfelt note to her husband, sharing: “To my dearest Johnny, the most wonderful man I know. You have given me hope when I have felt lost, loved me patiently and unconditionally… made me laugh harder than any other human being possible… shared the most beautiful highs and at times low. You’re a dream Daddio and make life so much fun!! I trust my love with you implicitly… with you I know I will always be okay no matter what happens… I love you forever and completely. Happy 28th Anniversary @johntravolta.”
In 2018, Preston told PEOPLE about one of the couple’s last romantic moments. “I think it’s when Johnny just whisks me away, and we’ll jump on the airplane and go out to dinner, and I don’t know where we’re going. It’s good to be married to a pilot!” she said.
And the mother of three adored her children. “I’ve wanted babies since I was 9,” Preston told InStyle in 2001.
Their son Jett was born in April 1992 and daughter Ella was born in April 2000. Following Jett’s tragic death, son Ben was born in November 2010 after Preston and Travolta tried for three years to conceive.
Preston’s final Instagram post was a family selfie in celebration of Father’s Day in June. “Happy Father’s Day to the best one I know, we love you,” she captioned the photo which starred their son Ben and daughter Ella. In addition, Preston posted a black-and-white portrait of Travolta and Jett.

He said: “COVID-19 pandemic is global and all of us have a role to play. Everybody has a role to play. It is only when everybody plays that role that we can put this pandemic behind us very quickly. As a government, we will continue to lead that conversation.
“We should continue to have various levels of engagement and various levels of communication. Everybody must be seen taking responsibility at this stage. “I will ask each and every one of us to take full responsibility, especially for our loved ones and ourselves. When we are going out, let us ensure we continue to obey the protocols. Let us wear our face masks. Let us ensure we keep social distance or physical distancing and continue to listen to our health practitioners and the advice they give us.
“If you have any symptoms, do not wait until when it becomes very severe; get yourself a test, get yourself into one of our isolation centers and we can assure you that, you will be treated well and you will get well at the end of the day,”
Sahara Reporters had extensively reported how Nigerian troops suffer mass casualty in the hands of Boko Haram terrorists due to lack of a robust intelligence apparatus and also lack of equipment.
At least 356 soldiers fighting the Boko Haram insurgency in Nigeria’s North-East have written the country’s Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, seeking voluntary retirement over “loss of interest”.
The soldiers in a letter with reference number NA/COAS/001, quoting the Harmonised Terms and Conditions of Service soldiers/rating/airmen (Revised) 2017, asked for approval to leave the Nigeria Army due to low morale.
Sahara Reporters had extensively reported how Nigerian troops suffer mass casualty in the hands of Boko Haram terrorists due to lack of a robust intelligence apparatus and also lack of equipment.
Some soldiers said this is further compounded by poor welfare for them and their families by the army.
In June, Sahara Reporters exclusively reported how a soldier and three others were abducted at a checkpoint before Gasarwa Village, about 40 kilometers from Monguno Local Government Area in Borno State.
The soldier and policeman, who was executed in a video a day after their abduction, spoke about their identity before their gruesome killing.
The Nigerian Army has not commented on the executions to this day.
The Nigerian Army also recently arrested a soldier, Lance Corporal Martins, after he appeared in a video blasting the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, and other security chiefs in the country for abandoning troops on the war front.
The soldier was arrested on the orders of Buratai, sources revealed to Sahara Reporters.
Meanwhile, Buratai has approved the disengagement of the 356 soldiers in a 17-page circular with reference number AHQ DOAA/G1/300/92.
He said, “In compliance with the provisions of Reference A, the COAS vide Reference B has approved the voluntary and medical discharge of the above named MWO, and 385 others listed as Annexes A and B.
“The soldiers are to proceed on terminal leave December 3, 2020, while their disengagement date takes effect from January 3, 2021, in accordance with the Nigerian Army Administrative Policy and Procedures No 27 Paragraphs 3 and 4. Accordingly, I am directed to request formations and units to release all affected soldiers to report at the Headquarters, Garrison, with their unit service documents for documentation.
Veteran actor, Ajirebi Kayode Olasehinde, popularly known as Pa James, has denied reports that actress Funke Akindele bought him a new house.
Some reports on social media had claimed that Funke Akindele, popularly called Jenifa, had bought a new house for the veteran actor.
Recall that Pa James’ son Samuel Ajirebi had called out to the government for help as flood overtook his father’s house last year.
The plight of Pa James left many dearly worried after his house was swept by flood in Oke Isagun community of Oke Odo, Lagos State. However, after learning about the unforeseen event about the veteran actor, Funke gifted him a new apartment solving his accommodation problem.
Speaking on the gesture, Pa James disclosed that Jenifa did not buy a new house for him as it was widely circulated online.
He said, Funke only assisted him with finances to rent a new apartment.
According to Pa James, Funke came to his aid when she heard about the incident of his home being flooded by rain.
He appreciated the Scene One CEO gesture, as well as all Nigerians and actors who showed support and love for him.
The suspended acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu has asked the Justice Ayo Salami-led Presidential Panel to investigate the alleged sale of recovered assets by the office of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice.
According to Magu, the AGF, Abubakar Malami (SAN), had no constitutional authority to approve the auction of recovered assets which he said was the responsibility of the Minister of Finance.
It would be recalled that the AGF had reportedly granted two separate approvals to an auctioneer to conduct an open bid for sale of crude oil and diesel as well as five vessels forfeited by illegal bunkering operators to the government.
But Magu, who spoke through his lawyer, Tosin Ojaomo on Saturday, contended that the justice minister had no power under section 174 of the 1999 Constitution to dabble into assets management, adding that the law only empowers him to institute and undertake criminal proceedings.
Magu’s lawyer also attributed his client’s travails to detractors who he said were not comfortable with the fact that he (Magu) was remitting money directly to the Federal Government coffers.
Asked if he was demanding the probe of the AGF for alleged involvement in the sale of recovered property, the lawyer stated, “Yes, I’m calling for that; I’m calling for a probe of the AGF. Ladidi Mohammed, head of assets recovery management in the office of the AGF should be brought to the panel to tell Nigerians how much they have managed in terms of assets.
“On what grounds is the AGF appointing contractors to conduct open bid? You can see that there is a question mark on the company appointed to conduct the auction. There is one Omoh-Jay Nigeria. There is a moral burden. The same person was tried by the EFCC, the same firm was now being picked to sell the assets recovered by the EFCC.”
Most people last year were looking forward to the 2020 New Year, catapulting some resolution they were unable to achieve with a determination and promise of commitment to see them through. Unknowingly for all, 2020 has a different plan for the world.
The year 2019 left a mark in the world such that will never be forgotten. If nothing at all, 2019 donated the world the “19” in the now most unpopular disease “COVID-19”, in decades.
What started as a “new form of pneumonia” in China’s Hubei region and its provincial capital of Wuhan has resulted in the death of more than half a million people globally.
Nigeria recorded its first case of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) on February 27.
With the de javu of the ebola virus in July 2014, the Nigerian medical personnel sprung into action, shoulder-high, this will be easily contained; just like the last time.
The Minister of Health, Professor Osagie Ehanire had said on February 27, prior to the first recorded case COVID-19 said that Lagos State, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, is well prepared and ready to contain the novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) infectious disease if eventually, it breaks out in Nigeria.
Also lending his voice to the assurance, the Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi had said; “Since the experience we had with Ebola a few years ago, we have been building capacity, infrastructure, revising our policies and laws, training staff that are specially equipped to deal with an outbreak of infectious diseases like Ebola, Monkeypox, Lassa Fever and Coronavirus if it comes here.
“So, we are ready in Lagos; we have the facility, trained staff, and robust surveillance system in place to contain and effectively manage an outbreak,” Talking of Ebola, Nigeria was declared Ebola-free, lesser than 3 months after the first case was recorded.
Announcing Nigeria is Ebola-free, the World Health Organisation said; “according to WHO recommendations, the end of an Ebola virus disease outbreak in a country can be declared once 42 days have passed and no new cases have been detected. The 42 days represents twice the maximum incubation period for Ebola (21 days). This 42-day period starts from the last day that any person in the country had contact with a confirmed or probable Ebola case.
While comparing Ebola to COVID-19, Nigerian health practitioners forgot these diseases are analogous. Ebola virus outbreak originated in DR Congo while the coronavirus disease originated in China.
China is the second country with the highest GDP. In fact, it is number one, ahead of the United States, on PPP basis. The number of people travelling to China exceeds the number of foreigners DR Congo receives in many folds.
China, being a hotspot for world businesses, nations across the world had their cases exported along with businesses.
Since the affluent are the ones in constant touch with foreigners, during their travel or business transactions, the coronavirus became a disease of the affluent. Nigerian politicians felt the impact of this disease more than the common Nigerian. As a matter of fact, some Nigerians still don’t believe coronavirus exists in the country.
In a poll conducted by Vanguard, 33 per cent of respondents claimed there is nothing like COVID-19 in Nigeria. A Vanguard reader, Sarah Mbah on Facebook said; “I think our government wants to get money from international bodies which they actually got and more from well-meaning Nigerians in tones of billions of naira.
” Even if they are faking it, the death of politicians related to coronavirus complications cannot be faked. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in March, less than one month after the first confirmed case in the country said: “States and treatment centres are primarily responsible for case management, with support and guidance from NCDC. These treatment centres are doing their best under difficult circumstances.
“The NCDC will not provide comment on the management of individual cases. We also ask the public to respect the privacy of individuals and families who are affected at this time.”
Subsequently, most COVID-19 cases that have been gaining media attention are either from an elite or a politician. Politicians have a larger share.
